What people are saying

Goba is a worthy project whose time has come. There is a great need for these services. These offerings are likely to make a difference, not only our Northern Indigenous patients' comfort, but to their health outcomes. They are more likely to recover well, show up to their follow-up treatments, and tolerate the necessary travel and new environment with the kind of supports which Melinda proposes to offer.

I first met Melinda when she did a project to learn more about cancer patients in a culturally holistic way. Melinda was patient, supportive, a good listener and a positive beam of light when she shared her thoughts and ideas in class. Students would gravitate to her positive energy and Melinda created a safe space for all to share.

Melinda’s approach is extremely focused, compassionate, loving, respectful, and private for each individual and family. Her positive attitude and concern for her people in the North will allow Goba NWT to be tailored to each situation and will result in better successes for each patient.

My husband Albert had surgery to remove a mass on his pancreas. It was a long and slow recovery, and followed by 6 months of chemotherapy. During this time, he would meet with Melinda who was there as a support person. She set him up on a plan and he came out with flying colours. He began eating healthy to regain all the weight he lost, exercising daily, and working closely with Melinda. She made sure he had traditional medicines, oils, and berries from the land. Unfortunately, the cancer came back in my husbands liver. She met with him once a month just to talk and he sure looked forward to those visits.

All the people that were going through cancer treatments and survivors in the community looked forward to working with her. She was a breath of fresh air. My late husband had nothing but good things to say about Melinda and Goba and how much hope she gave him. I will always be thankful to her for being there for my husband Albert.

Thanks so much for Goba's help during our medical stay in Edmonton. Traveling at last minute notice and with not much funding, we sure appreciated the extra groceries and care package for my daughter during my daughter's medical emergency. Once again thank you so much. Keep up the good work as it lifts people's spirits up at times like these.
